About Toror Tea

Heritage • Quality • Kenya’s Highlands

Our Story

Toror Tea Factory Co. was established in 2006 as a satellite factory of Tegat Tea Factory Co. Ltd, with construction completed in 2008. Following successful trial runs on 20th January 2009, the factory launched full commercial operations on 1st July 2009, selling tea under the Toror Tea Factory brand. Currently, the factory is fully operational as an independent entity.

Our Production & Location

Our facility has the capacity to process 22 million kg of green leaf annually, yielding approximately 4.5 million kg of finished tea at a 25% conversion rate. The factory is strategically located in Kericho County, Ainamoi Division (Kipchimchim Sub-Location), situated roughly 8 km from Kericho town and 4 km off the Nakuru-Kericho highway.

Our Products

We specialize in the manufacture and marketing of premium C.T.C. black teas. Our selection includes both Primary (BP1, PF1, PD, D1) and Secondary (F1, Dust, BMF) grades.

In addition to our renowned tea processing, we have expanded our portfolio to include pure, high-quality honey as a new product offering, reflecting our commitment to natural, locally sourced goods.

Governance & Management

The organization is governed by a Board of Directors shared with Tegat Tea Factory, elected by shareholders representing six electoral areas, including a nominated gender director. Operations are led by a Factory Unit Manager and supported by specialized departments in Production, Field Services, ICT, and Accounting.

Tea Processing Operations

Controlled CTC manufacturing process
Withering process

Withering

Fresh green leaf moisture is reduced under controlled airflow and temperature to achieve optimal pliability prior to CTC processing.

Key controls: Airflow • Temperature • Time
CTC processing

CTC Processing (Cut–Tear–Curl)

Leaf is mechanically cut, torn and curled to uniform particle sizes, ensuring consistency required for export blending and brewing performance.

Key controls: Roller pressure • Feed rate • Particle size
Fermentation process

Fermentation (Oxidation)

Oxidation is carefully timed and monitored to develop colour, aroma and strength characteristics specific to each tea grade.

Key controls: Time • Temperature • Humidity
Drying process

Drying (Firing)

High-temperature drying halts oxidation and reduces moisture to safe storage levels, stabilising flavour and shelf life.

Key controls: Inlet temperature • Outlet temperature • Residence time
Sorting and grading

Sorting & Grading

Tea is mechanically and manually graded into BP1, PF1, PD, D1 and secondary grades based on particle size and density.

Key controls: Sieve size • Density separation • Visual inspection
Packing and dispatch

Packing & Dispatch

Finished tea is packed, labelled and documented to ensure full traceability and compliance with buyer and export specifications.

Key controls: Moisture verification • Batch coding • Documentation checks

All processing stages operate under KTDA quality management systems with continuous monitoring and documented controls.

Pure & Natural Honey

Rooted in the landscapes of our Kericho tea estates, our honey reflects the same commitment to sustainability that defines our tea production. The surrounding forests are carefully preserved, supporting both thriving bee populations and the ecological balance essential for high-quality tea. By protecting these natural habitats and working closely with local communities, we ensure that every harvest—tea and honey alike—remains ethical, sustainable, and deeply connected to the land.

The Cycle of Light

In the early morning mist of the Kericho highlands, the first light of dawn touches the tea leaves, beginning the natural process of growth. For generations, we have watched the sun nourish our fields. But today, that relationship has evolved.

As the sun rises higher, our solar arrays begin their work. The same rays that gave the tea its flavor now provide the clean energy to wither, roll, and dry the leaves. This is the "Sun-to-Sip" cycle—a perfect loop where nature provides the power to refine itself.

By trading fossil fuels for sunlight, we are preserving the mountain air and protecting the rainfall patterns our farmers rely on. We don’t just harvest the crop; we harvest the sun.
